What happened with Kody Brown and Christine?

Christine confirmed in November 2021 that her marriage to Kody is over, posting a statement to her page that reads “After more than 25 years together, Kody and I have grown apart and I have made the difficult decision to leave.”

We will remain a significant presence within each other’s lives as we parent our lovely children and support our outstanding family. At this time, we ask you for grace and kindness as we navigate this stage within our family.

Kody then issued a statement, saying, “Christine’s decision to leave comes with a great deal of sadness for me.”

We appreciate our relationship and I value and admire her very much. Although we are taking care of different paths, we remain committed parents.

The confirmation of the split may not have been a tremendous shock to Sister Wives followers as Season 16 demonstrated the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic was putting on Christine and Kody’s relationship.

Kody devised a means of setting up his personal rules that put the conflict between his wives and he chose to restrict their freedom of movement because he needed to leave their immediate residences so he could go on separate trips that were restricted to his family members.

Christine described that Kody no longer desired an intimate relationship on the show. “He said, ‘I’m not interested in having an intimate marriage anymore,’ ” Christine stated on Sister Wives. “I’m not content staying in a marriage where there’s no intimacy.”

Prior to the premiere of Season 17 of the TLC show, Christine also shared the news that Kody is not driving their daughter Ysabel from New Jersey to have surgery to address her scoliosis. The star told People magazine in August that Ysabel, who is now 19, must travel to New Jersey in September 2020 for corrective surgery.

Kody didn’t travel with Christine and Ysabel during the time of the pandemic.

Christine was there with Ysabel the whole time in New Jersey for the surgery. And Christine remembers them asking, like, “Who’s here? Where’s your husband?” Ysabel replied, “Oh, he’s not here.” And they were astonished, like, “That must be hard.” Ysabel’s situation is extremely difficult, but the situation I faced wasn’t difficult.

In the end, I wished to have Ysabel there, but I also did not need him.
